Outline of COHSMS Guidelines

Purpose

The purpose of the COHSMS Guidelines is to raise the level of safety and health in construction workplaces, by encouraging employers to carry out continual and voluntary safety and health activities, in cooperation with their employees, through a set of processes such as the four step process, "Plan-Do-Check-Act", with the business office and the project sites as an integrated organization.

Scope

The provisions of the COHSMS Guidelines should apply to all contractors who intend to establish COHSMS.

General Requirements for Establishing the System.

The COHSMS Guidelines draw clear lines between the roles required of the business office and those of the project site, and based on those roles, stipulate general requirements necessary to establish the system in "17 general requirements at a business office "and" 11 requirements at a project site".

Construction Workplace

A Construction Workplace is a conceptual unit integrating a business office and multiple project site under the management of the business office.
